D4: OSCILLOSCOPE DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES

OBJECTIVES:
To explore diagnostic techniques using the oscilloscope, using and analysing the wave forms commonly generated by vehicle electronic systems. To use component functioning conditions and the analysis of CAN network analog and digital signals as aids to diagnosis.

COURSE CONTENTS:
Functions of TWINProbe and UNIProbe oscilloscopes; analog and digital signal reading modes such as peak-to-peak, frequency, PWM and T-NET mode for CAN bus lines. Extensive use of practical sessions and case studies such as: analysis of earth and power supply potential, checking alternator DFM signals, analysis of oxygen sensor and digital air mass flow meter signals, and RPM and phase sensor synchronisation. Introduction to useful notions for checking CAN bus network digital signals with the practical T-NET tool. Practical examples from the following manufacturers: Fiat, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot and Volkswagen.
