S5b: DIAGNOSIS AND OPERATION OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

OBJECTIVES:
To recognise gearbox types and select the corresponding diagnostic and repair procedures for common faults. To acquire the competence needed to identify faulty components using electronic diagnosis of the mechatronic system and torque converter stall testing. To learn ordinary maintenance procedures, including checking oil level and replacing filters.

COURSE CONTENTS:
Functioning of CVT (continuously variable transmission) systems and automatic planetary (AT) gearboxes; functioning of torque converters, gearbox oil pumps, planetary gear trains, brakes, clutches and mechatronic systems. Analysis of the data obtained by autodiagnostic tool and its use in correctly diagnosing and initialising the electronic components of Mercedes 7G Tronic AT gearboxes and of the ZF 6HP gearboxes used by BMW, AUDI, LAND ROVER and JAGUAR. Testing torque converters; emergency towing procedures; correct procedures for autonomously checking oil level and changing filters.
